He Sent His Son

Sanderson Family – He Sent His Son | download mp3

He Sent His Son
Words: Mabel Jones Gabbott, 1910–2004
Music: Michael Finlinson Moody, b. 1941

How could the Father tell the world of love and tenderness?
He sent his Son, a newborn babe, with peace and holiness.

How could the Father show the world the pathway we should go?
He sent his Son to walk with men on earth, that we may know.

How could the Father tell the world of sacrifice, of death?
He sent his Son to die for us and rise with living breath.

What does the Father ask of us? What do the scriptures say?
Have faith, have hope, live like his Son, help others on their way.
What does he ask? Live like his Son.

Notes

We performed this song as a special musical number in our worship service on Palm Sunday, and I spent the rest of the day making this recording. Music is an important part of our worship, and I love the many songs that testify of Jesus. He is God’s greatest message of love to us. If you are wondering whether God loves you, then consider these words taught by his Beloved Son:

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

“For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved” (John 3:16-17).

This song is featured in the Children’s Songbook published by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

This recording is the first to feature my new guitar, a Martin D-28, which I bought last month. It is a fine instrument, and is a pleasure to play. I look forward to using it on many recordings over the coming years. It came with mid-gauge strings that are a little thicker than I usually play, but are an important part of the instrument’s huge sound. Unfortunately this song is in the key of F, and the only chord that I am not playing as a bar chord is C7, so my left hand gets really sore by the end of the song.

Happy Easter, everybody!
