The Arms of Winter

The ARMS of WINTER – Tom Sanderson | download mp3

This piece finds inspiration from a trip to the upper midwest where, through experiencing an early snow blizzard, I recalled my memories of living in that region for a couple of years. Winter comes soon and leaves late. To me this season is somewhat a duality in metaphors: festivity and merrymaking versus desolation and pristine sterility. These two ideas play back and forth in an interesting way in Jasper Fforde’s book “Early Riser” which I read recently (and probably had some influence on this music). I was aiming for capturing the polarity of the two ideas of festivity versus desolation but I think this music leans heavily on the former. I guess the bleak part is better left out anyway as we’ve all got more than a heavy scoop this year (2020).
